After being kicked out by her parents after high school, Carina struggled but eventually built a successful life. As her wedding approached, she decided to invite her estranged parents.
“Carina,” her mother said, “You’re going to regret not going to medical school.” Carina replied, “My brain doesn’t work like Jade’s; she’s the doctor in the family, not me.”
After graduation, her parents made her leave. “You’ve chosen this path,” her mother said. “So you’re capable of taking care of yourself.”
Thirteen years later, with a successful career and a loving fiancé, Mark, Carina decided to invite her parents to the wedding. When her parents arrived, they were shocked by her beautiful home. “Carina! You own this entire house?” her father asked in disbelief. “Yes, Dad,” she replied, “I worked hard for this.”
Her mother then demanded, “We deserve to live in comfort after all we’ve done for you.” Carina’s future in-laws intervened. “Carina’s achievements are hers,” Carol said. “She’s worked hard for this, and she deserves every bit of it.”
Carina told her parents, “This is my life. I’ve worked too hard to let anyone take that away from me.”
After a tense dinner, Carina’s parents seemed to understand a little, and they agreed to attend the wedding. “We’ll see you at the wedding,” her father said. “Yes,” Carina replied, “I’ll see you then.”
